Being a photographer has its advantages and disadvantages. Let me share a little story so you’ll know what I mean…

Sometimes I feel like a paparazzi of my own family. Everywhere I go, I carry my camera with me, chasing the moments that can be captured.

When did all this begin?

In 2016, we landed in America. It was a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to live here. Naturally, I wanted to document our time here.

How could I keep this story close so I can retell it for my friends and family?

There are many ways to tell a story. Images are the easiest way for me to share a story.

My camera became my best friend.

Every fresh project comes with excitement, motivation and determination. I was always ready with my camera; seeking the perfect shot of the day. Over time though, the excitement wears off.

Documenting your family’s daily life for 365 days isn’t easy. It requires accountability and patience.

For me, I thrived off of having people cheering me on. I joined a Facebook group with other moms doing the same thing. Together, we journeyed the year…capturing and sharing our moments together.

By the end of the year, I was pretty done with the project. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Here’s one of my absolute favorite pictures of Greta. Perhaps I wouldn’t have snapped this one if I wasn’t on a mission to complete the project.

I like this photo because it’s not just a portrait. This photo speaks to me about Greta’s behavior. She is a dreamer, a strong and independent little woman. I vividly remember her asking me to buy this mermaid fin. At first, I said no…what can you do with a fin in a small house with a tiny tub? Isn’t that more fit for a swimming pool? Have ever told you that she is stubborn? So here we are, in the tub with her new fin. What is she dreaming? What is she feeling? Her gesture and expression speaks out loud even without using a single word.

I took one year off after my first 365 Day Project. I still made photos of my family, but I needed a break.

It was Greta who asked me to pick it back up.

And so, I picked my camera up and I’m building good memories for my kids and me…I’m capturing the everyday life we are living.

A picture per day, 30 pictures per month, 365 photos at the end of the year!

I can do it! You can too!
