Day in the Life

Unfiltered Family Photography for Lively,
Loving Families | Atlanta, GA

Childhood. Blink and you’ll miss it.

Family life whizzes by at breakneck speed. One minute you’re cradling a newborn and the next they’re off to college. At least, that’s what it feels like!

When you look back on it all in years to come, you’ll want authentic memories, not manufactured moments. You’ll want to remember how you and your children felt every day, not just how you looked in your Sunday best.

Besides, your life is beautiful, just as it is.

If we only reach for our cameras when our children are immaculately dressed, happy, and well behaved, we quietly teach them these are the only moments worth remembering, the only times we see their beauty.

My approach to family
photography is different.

Immersing myself in your world, deep within your daily rhythm, I’m able to find beauty in the seemingly small and ordinary. A messy breakfast table, muddy knees, or the lived-in chaos of your child’s bedroom – I want to celebrate it all.

I’m not interested in perfection. I won’t tell you what to do, ask you to pose, or force you to smile. Instead, I capture precious, everyday moments, creating a visual story of your daily life as it unfolds.

My photographs document things that are easily missed when you’re busy raising a family. A playful glance between siblings, a mom’s morning kiss, or the way a father scoops his kids into his arms before bed.

These are the things you’ll want to look back on, the things your kids might not remember unless you show them it happened.

Not only is Barbara gifted in her art, but she is compassionate, respectful, and kind. But when she is “working”, she is a mere fly on the wall ready to capture life’s most precious moments.

How it works

Get In Touch

Ready to capture the crazy, beautiful chaos of family life? Use my contact form to get in touch and we’ll arrange a time to meet.

Your Consultation

Before your session, we’ll meet in person and start getting to know each other. My documentary approach requires a lot of mutual trust, so this an important part of the process. We’ll chat about your expectations for the shoot and run through any questions or concerns.

On the Day

When the day of your Family Photography Session arrives, you may feel super pumped and excited or a little nervous and worried. I’ll do my best to put you at ease, jumping right into your world and playing with your kiddos. I won’t be a ‘fly on the wall’. Instead, I’ll interact with you and your family, building trust and helping you relax in front of the camera. My hope is that we’ll soon feel like old friends!

Your Photos

3-4 weeks after your session, I’ll be in touch to arrange a viewing of your photos. We’ll watch a beautiful slideshow (that’s also yours to keep) and I’ll help you select and order your favourite images from the session. Depending on your chosen package, you’ll receive a set number of digital files plus any additional purchases you choose to make.

Frequently

Asked Questions

What if I hate posing for photos?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! The images I create are nothing like the typical posed photos you’re thinking of. My style is candid and natural, so you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the experience without having to wear a forced smile.

Will you be photographing us the whole time?

To capture genuine emotion, I need your complete trust, so some of the session will be spent getting to know you and your children.

What should I wear?

Whatever makes you comfortable! I want to capture your truest, most authentic self, so dress as you normally would.

My house is always a mess! Won’t my photos look terrible?

Your house isn’t a mess, it’s lived in and filled with love. The day-to-day debris of family life is part of your story. I promise it will look perfectly lovely in your pictures.

I noticed you share images from your sessions. Can I keep my photos private?

Of course. I have the upmost respect for your privacy. While I do share many photos from my sessions, I’m happy to withhold anything you’d prefer not to make public.

Small children are unpredictable. What if our kids misbehave or you don’t catch us at our best?

I’m passionate about photographing life as it happens. If the universe throws you an unpleasant surprise during your session and your photos aren’t representing your everyday, we’ll schedule another date at no extra cost.

I’d prefer a short, one-hour session. Is that possible?

Unfortunately, I’m unable to offer a shorter session. The success of my relaxed documentary approach relies on us spending time together, getting to know each other and building trust.
